New COVID MBS Item Number
Thursday’s Government announcement regarding another change to the national AstraZeneca rollout (where patients 50-59 became eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine) cast more patient doubts over the safety of the AstraZeneca vaccine. This change resulted in GPs needing to spend more time consulting with patients aged 50 years and over who were booked in for the AstraZeneca vaccine.
To support this increase in GP consultation time, we’re
pleased to announce the Government has introduced a new MBS item number (10660)
which has been created to support longer vaccine consults for patients aged 50
years and over, who require more time to discuss their increased hesitancy
receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine with their GP.
Item 10660 must be bulk-billed and it is possible to co-claim it
with existing COVID vaccination item numbers.
The new COVID MBS item number 10660 came into immediate
effect on Thursday, 18 June 2021.
